Photo Friday: Queenstown, New Zealand

Queenstown won out as our favorite city in New Zealand, although there are many runners up. Its scenic beauty, good weather and abundance of activities were the main selling points. Although I spent half of the week feeling under the weather, we did enjoy a gondola ride and go-kart tracks, yummy Thai food, and a day trip to Milford Sound and Fjordland National Park. Next time: paragliding!

Have you been to New Zealand? What’s your favorite city and why?

Happy Friday,

Sounds like fun. Our favorite city in NZ was Wellington but my brothers and friends went to the South Island and Queenstown and LOVED it. Where did you stay? We are thinking of doing a work/play trial in March – and I winder if it’s cold and expensive around that time too… Any thoughts you may have for us would be fantastic! Thank you Kate!

In general, we enjoyed the South Island more, also. The scenic beauty of the South is what you think of for New Zealand. We stayed at Hippo Lodge. Gumtree probably has listings for short-term rentals and I also saw some shares/rentals advertised at the local grocery stores. According to their tourism website, “temperatures fluctuate between several degrees below zero and 25°C (32°F – 77°F), so pack a few layers, including t-shirts,” from March 1 to May 31. The weather we had there was among the best we experienced, probably because it’s protected within mountain ranges. I think NZ would be a wonderful place for a work/play trial. With our dollar at parity with the Aussie dollar, Australia is feeling a bit expensive right now. Good luck!

Kate, another thank you here for the great information. The South Island must be the place to go! I get the sense that you really enjoyed living in the South Island. I dress in layers often so that’s great to know! thank you again and again!!
