2009 has been good to us in Northern California, but it should come as no surprise that a couple who moves around as often as we do is embracing change, again. In March, Brian will be leaving his job as a research scientist and Kate will be putting her photography business on hiatus so that we can embark on long-term, round-the-world travel…no itinerary, no schedule. We’re starting on the Big Island of Hawaii, and after a few months there, we expect to head to Japan. After that, who knows where the wind will blow us. With our “Happy New Year” email (above), we made the final announcement of our travel plans to friends, family and colleagues. For seven months, Brian and I have been planning how and when we’d initiate our revised life plan: to leave behind work, home and a conventional life in favor of new experiences and thinking outside the box. We had shared our plans with our immediate families and a few close friends in the early fall, but we weren’t free to share the news with everyone until Brian put in his notice at work and Kate began preparations for shutting down her business. Now all that’s left is the hard work: planning, packing and final preparations. Stay tuned to see what we’re doing to prepare for our March 31st departure.
